What are the ingredients of Prostate Power Rx?
This formula contains Saw Palmetto, Pygeum Africanum, Stinging Nettle, Quercetin, Lycopene, Beta Sitosterol, Daizein, Genistein, and Rosaminic Acid. This product does not contain zinc or pumpkin seed extract. Those who wish to have the latter two supplements can take them in addition to the prostate formula.

Benefits
Prostate Power Rx helps maintain a healthy prostate gland. The FDA does not allow claims that supplements can treat or cure a medical condition. An enlarged prostate gland or BPH is a medical condition and therefore no claims can be made that this supplement can reduce prostate size or improve urine flow. Furthermore, no claims can be made that this product prevents or cures prostate cancer. If you see advertisements about natural or herbal prostate formulas that claim to treat BPH or claim that their product improves urine flow, please realize that these claims are a violation of FDA rules.

Hair growth or treatment for hair thinning
There are claims that saw palmetto blocks 5 alpha reductase enzyme and may help with hair growth. Does Prostate Power Rx help those with loss of hair?
     We have no research with this product to determine whether it would or would not help with hair growth.

This product became available in 2004.

Studies and research
Have there been any studies with Prostate Power Rx?
     It is very expensive to do studies and the vast majority of dietary supplements and formulas are available to consumers without any studies being performed. Pharmaceutical companies have the budget to do such studies, and they can patent their product, but nutritional companies don't have this kind of budget and are not able to patent the natural herbs. Hence, it is impractical for most vitamin companies to engage in research projects.

How many capsules are in a bottle of Prostate Power Rx? Are they vegan or vegetarian?
There are sixty capsules. The capsules do have gelatin which is from bovine source. Some people who do not wish to ingest the gelatin capsule can pull each side of the capsule and empty the contents in water or juice.

Dosage
You have the option to take one or two capsules a day. For long term use we suggest you take a day or two off each week and a few days off each month. Taking a holiday from daily use is generally a good idea with most supplements.

Is it okay to take saw palmetto extract pills in addition to Prostate Power Rx?
This formula already contains saw palmetto extract 320 mg per capsule at 45% phytosterols, therefore there is not need to take additional saw palmetto.

Does Prostate Power Rx treat BPH or an enlarged prostate?
The FDA does not allow claims to be made by natural, over the counter supplements that they can treat or cure a medical condition. Any company that sells a natural herbal supplement and claims that their product treats or cures an illness is violating FDA rules and is subject to a warning letter followed by legal action.

Does Prostate Power Rx reduce the likelihood of prostate cancer?
We have no idea since it would take studies lasting more than 10 years to have any clues and we do not have this kind of data.

Long term use
If you plan to use Prostate Power Rx for many months or years, we recommend that you take one day off a week and three days off per month.

At what age should a person begin the use of Prostate Power Rx?
     This is a decision you and your physician would need to make. Many men may never need to take an herbal prostate formula, or a prescription medication to treat an enlarged prostate gland. Others like to begin in their forties or fifties but only use one capsule three times a week. Some men may wish to begin in their sixties and use one capsule daily or a few times a week. Please discuss with your doctor who will review your family history of prostate health and your own prostate gland status.

Side effects and safety
This product has been available since 2004 and no major or significant side effects have been reported. Most people take one capsule a day although some users prefer two a day.

Interactions with nutritional supplements
Please have approval by your doctor before you combine supplements or medications.

Beta sitosterol - This formula has a small amount of beta sitosterol, but if you only take one capsule of the prostate formula a day, you could take a beta sitosterol pill a few  times a week.

Eyesight Rx can be taken the same day as the herbal prostate product. Eyesight Rx is used to improve visual health.

Joint Power Rx - We don't see any problems combining Joint Power Rx with this prostate supplements or combining it with glucosamine, chondroitin, msm, cmo, devil's claw, and cat's claw herb.

Mind Power Rx - One could take a Mind Power Rx capsule 3 or 4 times a week along with a daily capsule of the prostate formula.

Multivitamins - Prostate Power Rx can be taken the same day as a daily multivitamin, including MultiVit Rx.

Passion Rx - It may be a good idea to not take the prostate pills the same day as Passion Rx, with or without yohimbe. In the long run, Passion Rx is only taken 2 days a week and the prostate pills can be taken on the days that the herbal sexual formula is not used. However we have had feedback from many users who have taken both the same day without any problems.

Interactions with prescription medications
How the ingredients in Prostate Power Rx interact with prescription medications is not clear.  Chances are there are no major interactions with pharmaceutical drugs, but it is not easy to know this. There are thousands of pharmaceutical drugs prescribed by medical doctors, and some individuals take several medications a day. Discuss with your doctor if you have any health condition or taking any prescription medications before you use Prostate Power Rx.

Blood pressure medications - If you are taking a blood pressure medication due to very high blood pressure, we don't suggest using Prostate Power Rx. However, if you are taking a blood pressure medication in a low dosage since you have mild or perhaps moderate hypertension, the herbal formula may work out fine. Just monitor your blood pressure regularly.

Cardura - See Doxazosin Mesylate.

Doxazosin Mesylate - This prescription medication is used to treat the symptoms of prostate gland enlargement called BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia). Doxazosin is an alpha blocker that works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder neck and prostate. Relaxing these muscles leads to relief of symptoms of BPH such as the feeling of needing to urinate frequently or urgently, weak stream, difficulty in beginning the flow of urine, and the need to urinate during the middle of the night. We have not had any reports of untoward side effects when Prostate Power Rx has been used together with Doxazosin medication.

Dutasteride, also known as Avodart - We have not had any reports of untoward side effects when Avodart have been combined with Prostate Power Rx.

Finasteride, also known as Proscar or Propecia - We have not had any reports of untoward side effects when finasteride has been combined with Prostate Power Rx.

Heart medications - If your have a severe heart condition, we do not suggest taking Prostate Power Rx. We don't have enough feedback with the use of this prostate supplement in those who have moderate or severe heart disease or taking heart medications to know whether it is safe or not safe.

Hytrin is the product name for terazosin , a class of medications called alpha 1 blockers which relaxes the smooth muscles of the arteries, the prostate, and the bladder neck. Other alpha blockers in the same class of drugs include doxazosin (Cardura), alfuzosin (Uroxatral), tamsulosin (Flomax), and prazosin (Minipress). Relaxing the smooth muscles of the arteries lowers blood pressure. Relaxing the smooth muscles around the bladder neck relieves urinary obstruction caused by an enlarged prostate (prostate hypertrophy).

Can a take Prostate Power and Hytrin or Flomax at the same time or one in the am and one at night, I usually take Hytrin at night.
     We have not had any untoward reactions reported with these combinations, but you would need approval by your doctor.

SSRI antidepressants - Our understanding thus far is that Prostate Power Rx should be safe to use with medications used for depression but if suggest you have approval by your doctor.
     As a general rule, we suggest you discuss with your doctor regarding taking this natural herbal formula along with your SSRI medication. He or she may suggest you take a lesser dosage. If no problems occur, the dosage can be increased.

Thyroid medications - We have no reason to think Prostate Power Rx interferes with the use of thyroid medications.
